How do I find what I am looking for?
|
There are three main ways of searching the CSYB website:
1) Main Search - Every page allows for a basic search to be done on an individual’s name, department or job title using a drop-down bar. The search results will take the user through to the relevant department(s).
2) Advanced Search - If a more detailed search is required, then there is an Advanced Search link underneath the main search on each page. When you enter all the details you have, the search will bring back a more limited number of relevant results.
3) Navigation Bars - By using the left-hand navigation bar, which takes the user through to specific areas of the Civil Service e.g. Research Councils, the user can find all the departments that can be found under that particular heading. Alternatively, by using the alphabetical list at the top of every page above the search bar, the user can search for a department by title.

How do I find our more about a department or
agency?
|
Anyone using www.civil-service.co.uk will be able to gain access to the main enquiry number for a department/agency if it is listed, using one of the search options above. This enquiry point will be able to help with any further enquiries relating to the department. Often the main department details will also contain a dynamic website link which will take users straight through to the department’s own website.
|
| |
Who supplies the details to each department and/or
agency and what should I do if I find a mistake?
|
The CSYB is collated using information supplied by each department or agency within the Civil Service. All the information on this site is official and has been supplied exclusively to be used within the CSYB. If changes are made within the Civil Service and TSO are informed, we will do our utmost to make sure these are represented as quickly as possible on the site. If you notice a mistake, then please contact our editorial team at csybeditorial@tso.co.uk.
|
| |
How often is the site updated?
|
The website is currently only updated automatically when the printed Civil Service Year Book is published (usually twice a year) and when there are any changes to the higher levels of the Civil Service. In the future www.civil-service.co.uk will move to becoming a live site, updating overnight.
|
| |
Can my company use the data for mailing
purposes?
|
The data on www.civil-service.co.uk is owned by The Cabinet Office and there are restrictions on how Crown Copyright material is allowed to be used. More details can be found on www.opsi.gov.uk or by emailing licensing@cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk.

I’ve managed to find top-level information but do not
seem to be able to reach anything further?
|
Free top-level information is available to everyone who logs on to the CSYB website. To reach all the information available, including detailed telephone numbers, addresses and individuals within the Civil Service, then users need to purchase a copy of the book or a subscription. To do so please contact TSO customer services: subscriptions@tso.co.uk or ring 0870 600 5522.
|
| |
How can I obtain access to the CSYB website for my
whole office to use?
|
A normal subscription to www.civil-service.co.uk allows access to the site for only one user. If a multiple user licence is required then TSO can arrange this. Cost is dependent on the number of users requiring access. Please contact subscriptions@tso.co.uk or ring 0870 600 5522 to discuss your requirement further.
